EU Craft Beer Equipment PED/CE Compliance Guideline 

1. Scope of Applicable Equipment

All pressurized brewery equipment with a working pressure above 0.5 bar, mainly including:

• Jacketed conical fermentation tanks (negative and positive pressure working conditions)

• Pressurized bright beer tanks (BBT) for carbonation and pressure storage

• All pressurized tanks and pipelines in brewing systems and CIP systems

• All types of pressurized conditioning tanks and serving tanks

2. Critical Compliance Misconceptions (Key Risks to Avoid)

• Misconception: Manufacturer self-declared CE marking is sufficient for customs clearance.

• Fact: Self-declaration is only valid for Category I / II low-pressure equipment. Category III equipment such as fermentation tanks mandatorily requires certification by an EU Notified Body. The four-digit Notified Body number must be marked on the equipment nameplate; otherwise, the CE marking is non-compliant and invalid.

3. Actual Risks of Incomplete Documentation

• Incomplete documents or non-compliant CE marking: Customs detention and on-site shipment rejection

• Missing official Declaration of Conformity (DoC): Equipment cannot be legally sold within the EU, and the importer shall bear full legal liabilities

• Missing test or technical documents: Failure in official random inspections, resulting in costly re-inspection or direct product return

• Inconsistent language of operational documents: Order disputes, product returns, project delays and revenue losses
