EU Craft Beer Equipment PED/CE Compliance Guideline
1. Scope of Applicable Equipment
All pressurized brewery equipment with a working pressure above 0.5 bar, mainly including:
•Jacketed conical fermentation tanks (negative and positive pressure working conditions)
•Pressurized bright beer tanks (BBT) for carbonation and pressure storage
•All pressurized tanks and pipelines in brewing systems and CIP systems
•All types of pressurized conditioning tanks and serving tanks
2. Critical Compliance Misconceptions (Key Risks to Avoid)
•Misconception: Manufacturer self-declared CE marking is sufficient for customs clearance.
•Fact: Self-declaration is only valid for Category I / II low-pressure equipment. Category III equipment such as fermentation tanks mandatorily requires certification by an EU Notified Body. The four-digit Notified Body number must be marked on the equipment nameplate; otherwise, the CE marking is non-compliant and invalid.
3. Actual Risks of Incomplete Documentation
•Incomplete documents or non-compliant CE marking: Customs detention and on-site shipment rejection
•Missing official Declaration of Conformity (DoC): Equipment cannot be legally sold within the EU, and the importer shall bear full legal liabilities
•Missing test or technical documents: Failure in official random inspections, resulting in costly re-inspection or direct product return
•Inconsistent language of operational documents: Order disputes, product returns, project delays and revenue losses
4. CASSMAN Compliance Advantages
CASSMAN holds the PED Module H Full Quality Assurance Certification (the highest-level PED compliance certificate) issued by EuroCert, an EU Notified Body. The certification covers the full procedures of fermentation tank design, production, quality inspection and testing, with continuous third-party annual surveillance audits, fully complying with EU customs and local supervision requirements:
•Supply compliant CE nameplates with official Notified Body numbers
•Provide complete valid DoC, technical files, hydraulic pressure test reports and weld inspection reports
•Offer multi-language equipment operation manuals on demand
